This has been a weird week. It wasn’t truly bad, but everyday, things were a little off. I didn’t add to my novel for a couple of days, which always makes the day worse — got back on the horse yesterday. Pretty much all I accomplished was writing 2,000 words. I spent the rest of the day napping and reading; it felt great. I think it’s a given you’re supposed to be a writer when writing makes you feel like you’ve done your sacred duty for the day.
I didn’t do much outside of write, work, and sleep this week, but here’s some highlights:
- My Kindle. I’ve been loving reading on my Kindle and I’ve been reading a lot. I should have gotten one forever ago.
- Steven King’s On Writing. I found a copy of this book online years ago, before I knew for sure I wanted to be a writer, and read most of it. I’ve been wanting to buy a physical copy for a while, but I literally have no room for even one more book on my shelves. So, I got the Kindle version this week and I’ve been reading it. King’s tone annoys me sometimes, for a reason I haven’t quite put my finger on yet, but the man knows what he’s talking about. There’s lots of great wisdom in this book. I will probably do a full book review on it in the future.
- Grammar. I don’t like grammar, per say, but brushing up on it has been a significant part of my week. Many people I know have terrible grammar and punctuation skills, so I’ve assumed mine are pretty great. Wrong. There are a lot of little things I either never learned in school or have forgotten.
- Ibuprofen. Lord knows I needed it this week.
My blog posts on Monday and Wednesday were about doubting my writing and advice for doing creative work when you feel crappy. Check those out if you’re interested. 🙂
I’ve moved my novel’s word count to the side bar. I update it every time I post a new blog.
